Search Marketing
Yahoo! Search Marketing is the sequel of the Overture Services, Inc. In 2003, Yahoo acquired Overture for $1.7 billion. After that, Yahoo has re-branded all the old brand products of Overture under its own name. Yahoo! Search Marketing has provided highly profitable business to the Overture. This partnership of Yahoo with Overture helps to monetize the millions of web searches made on its website everyday. Along with profits, Yahoo! Search marketing has always
been in controversy for one or the other reasons. The Goto.com is the
early name of the Yahoo! Search Marketing. It was the inventor of the
P4P (Pay for Performance) system. Nevertheless, this idea was in controversy.
Many issues were raised regarding its manipulation and its irrelevant
results. However, this model of Yahoo has produced highly relevant search
results. In another controversy, Yahoo allows its users to remove spyware from their system. However, it does not allow removing Claria adware. It only considers removing ‘adware’ when user specifically asks to remove it. Both Yahoo and Claria have challenged this controversy. They have claimed that the adware software is installed voluntarily. In addition, their ads provide a useful service to the users and the revenue from the ads cut down the cost of software. In further controversy,
criticis says that Yahoo and Claria ‘adware ads’ replace
the advertisements of other websites. Some believe that this is an interference
with their private property rights. However, Yahoo alleges that it does
not have any connection with this. Yahoo also claims that it does not
control Claria. |
